Dr. Martin Cortez Wesley – Professor, Therapist, Storyteller

Reflections on Counseling, Character, and Culture

I write about counseling, mental health, values, and the ways our personal stories shape how we live, heal, and connect

My story, my life, and my practice.

I’m Dr. Martin C. Wesley, counselor, educator, writer, and lifelong learner. Over the years, I’ve taught, practiced, and written about what it means to be human in the midst of struggle and growth. My work blends professional counseling insight with the personal stories and cultural roots that have shaped me, especially my Appalachian heritage and my family’s journey.
Those roots still shape the way I teach, write, and practice counseling today. I believe that every story matters, that character and values guide us through life’s hardest seasons, and that even in divided times, empathy can still be the bridge that connects us.
